Phillies lose 7-4, Close all Bridges

Baseball is just one frustrating sport, actually make that all of sports. Phillies blow the 4-0 lead they once had and lose 7-4 to the Mets. Drink drink drink drink the night away.

It was a crazy sports day around the Philadelphia area tonight, the Flyers were playing a few feet away from Citizens Bank Park where the Phillies were playing the New York Mets, and the 76ers were playing so this meant if you are a Philly sports fan you were either drunk or having heart attacks tonight.

The Phillies yet again got out to the early lead off of two run home run from Hunter Pence, Mr. Pence sure is starting to hit some of these balls deep out of ballparks in the last few days. With that deep fly to left center field Pence now has seven home runs on the season. I just wish he would stop swinging at the first pitch out of the strike zone every at bat, opposing pitchers are never going to throw him a strike on the first pitch if he keeps doing this.

Joe Blanton pitched tonight for the Phillies and he looked to continue his dominance from his last outing where he pitched a three hit shutout in Atlanta.

Joe Blanton pitched a hitless scoreless first three innings tonight against the Mets, he ran into some trouble in the top of the fourth inning but was able to pitch his way out of the jam and not allow more than one run.

Blanton could not get out of the seventh inning jam and left the game allowing a run in the inning, he was later charged with two more runs because the bullpen sucks.

Joe Blanton pitched 6.2 innings tonight and allowed four runs off of five hits, then the Phillies went to the arson squad bullpen and basically lost the game.

Chad Qualls has to be the worse reliever in baseball,

If you want to see the horrible sequence of the bullpen here you go.

The Phillies continue to have the worst bullpen ERA in the major leagues.

The name of the game this year for the Phillies is to push across early runs, the Phillies pushed a across another run in the bottom of the second inning off of a Pete Orr RBI single to centerfield, later in the inning Shane Victorino doubled to left to score two Phillies runs. Too many games this year I have seen the Phillies get out to the early lead only to blow it late.

It was the 216th sellout tonight at Citizens Bank Park, there was Pockets of empty seats everywhere. It was the smallest sellout since the streak began.

John Mayberry Jr. had the best night I think of all season, making great contact with the ball  all night long, something I have not seen in past games. Mayberry went 2 for 4 tonight.

Phillies next game is tomorrow night where Cliff Lee will pitch for the first time since April 18th, Lee pitched ten shutout innings in that game but the Phillies could not score a win and lost the game. Lee went on the disabled list the next day with a strained oblique muscle. Lee has pitched two pain-free bullpen session and is ready to go tomorrow night. Dillon Gee will pitch for the New York Mets.

Some Other Notes

Nationals General Manager Mike Rizzo was fined an undisclosed amount by MLB for his comments about Hamels beaning Bryce Harper. I guess if you talk you get fined.

I Want Bobby

On Friday the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim released Outfielder Bobby Abreu and called up Mike Trout.

If I was the Phillies general manager I would give him a contract to play for this team right now because at least he has some power unlike the little winky dink Pierre we have playing out there in left field most of the time. Juan Pierre has absolutely no power, if the Phillies played their home games on a little league field I would bet you money he could not even hit a home run out there, but he might be the same height as some of the little leaguers.

We have way too many singles hitters on this ball club, it takes three to four hits to even chalk home a run, most of the time the Phillies can’t even get those runners home and strand them home on the bases.

I know 38-year-old Bobby Abreu is no Babe Ruth but he could add an improvement to our team, he can at least pop a ball out of the ballpark and he is one of the most patient hitters I have ever seen. I have rarely ever seen Bobby chase a ball out of the zone, the Phillies lineup as of late swings at every possible pitch the opposing pitchers sling up there, the ball could be in the dirt and these hitters will wale away and miss at it while I scream at the tv in a rage of frustration.

Now to sign Abreu the Phillies would have to get rid of a player on the 25 man roster, if I was running the show which would be a really scary thing I would get rid of Juan Pierre and just give the left field job to Bobby Abreu but I would be shocked to see the Phillies do that. The Phillies could get rid of John Mayberry Jr. but I really think that would be a huge mistake, Mayberry is not having a great start to the year but the Phillies really have not given him a lot of chances at playing. Mayberry has that power threat that Pierre never has had and even if he was juiced up on roids he still would not have, It’s beyond me that Pierre starts more than John Mayberry Jr. out there in left field. The Phillies could also get rid of Jim Thome to open up room on the 25 man roster but that seems very unlikely because Thome is a fan favorite, he is struggling but he is a fan favorite and if the Phillies got rid of him I think you might see some fan rage from the Philly faithful.

Abreu has dropped off this year but I’m willing to take the shot on him. Abreu  has.208/.259/.333 statline this year but he could probably steal more bases than Mr. speedy Pierre.

So should the Phillies stick to the high powered singles offense we have or try to get Abreu?

Opening Day Preview: Phillies vs Pittsburgh Pirates

Happy Opening Day Folks

After that long cold offseason the regular season is finally upon us, I was starting to get  little bit loopy and bored without baseball.

The Philadelphia Phillies open up their season today against the Pittsburgh Pirates at 1:35 Pm Eastern Time at PNC Park, it is one really beautiful ballpark as you overlook the Steel City.

Roy Halladay will make his tenth straight opening day start this afternoon. The Phillies offense will face 33-year-old Lefty Eric Bedard who has a career record of 56-50 in his eight season in the major leagues.

This game is on PHL 17 for Tv and on 1210 WPHT for radio.

The Phillies over the years have not played well at this ballpark but let’s hope that changes this weekend.

The weather is going to be pretty lovely all weekend long in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, there is 0 percent chance of rain on today and Saturday with a 30 percent chance of rain on Sunday. The high today will be 56 degrees around game time. Beautiful day for opening day baseball in Pittsburgh.
