A Glance at the Road Trip

After today’s 4-3 walk off win by the Phillies they now board a plane for the lovely city of Chicago where they will play just two games against the Cubs and then head back to the city of brotherly love to face off against the Boston Red Sox.

You just have to love this Phillies season so far, when you think they have found every possible human way to blow a game they find a new way to absolutely shock you. Chad Qualls continues to just blow everything out of the bullpen this year, I really hope I never see him in a Phillies jersey again because every time he pitches you can guarantee its going to be a struggle.

This season so far has been very hard to watch and you should have your liquor cabinet full to the brim at all times, if you don’t drink I commend you.

The Cubs really suck right now and that should not be a shock to anybody, Phillies need to win games against these sub par teams.

Phillies find themselves only one game under the .500 mark.

A look at the pitching matchups on this road trip. Vance Worley was supposed to start tomorrow but he has been scratched, Kyle Kendrick will more than likely pitch instead so just kill me now.

Wednesday 8:05 Pm EST Start

Vance Worley (3-2, 3.07 ERA) Kyle Kendrick vs Matt Garza (2-1, 2.56 ERA)

Thursday 8:05 Pm EST Start

Roy Halladay (3-3, 3.20 ERA) vs Chris Volstad (0-5, 6.92 ERA)

Another night another bullpen loss. The Phillies get swept at home by the New York Mets.

Bullpen ignites a 10-6 loss to the Mets

Cliff Lee was back out on the mound tonight for the Phillies for the first time since April 18th. The first time he has pitched since pitching ten scoreless innings and receiving a no decision in San Francisco.

Lee helped his own cause in the bottom of the second inning as he hustled down the first base line to beat the throw from shortstop Justin Turner, Brian Schneider who was catching Lee tonight scored on the play.

Once again the Phillies pushed across the first run of the game, that has not turned into wins for the Phillies so far this season, it didn’t tonight.

The Mets answered right back in the top of the third inning, scoring one run off of a Daniel Murphy double to left field, Lee was able to work out of the jam and not allow anymore runs. Very important to limit the runs because this Phillies offense has an issue of scoring when it gets late into games.

Freddy Galvis hit a little weak ground out to second base to give the Phillies 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning. I will take runs anyway I can’t possibly get them at this point. That little ground out to second gave Galvis his ninth RBI on the season.

In the top of the sixth inning I about lost my mind, Shane Victorino dove for a ball and missed it, that allowed Andres Torris to get all the way to third base on the play. Two batters later David Wright blooped a little single to centerfield to tie it up two. The Phillies did the worst thing possible which was going to the bullpen. They had there torches ready and they were ready to ignite a loss.

Cliff Lee was done after six innings of work, Lee was on a pitch count because this is his first start since being taken off of the disabled list. Lee allowed two runs off of five hits in his return to the rotation.

Freddy Galvis saved the day in the bottom of the sixth (at the time), Galvis came within inches off hitting his second home run of the season but the ball banged off of the top of the left field wall, nonetheless the Phillies were able to regain the lead on that play. Laynce Nix pinch hit for Lee in the inning and he blooped a little single to centerfield that scored Freddy Galvis from second base.

At this point in time I was cheering for rain to come pour down on Citizens Bank Park so the Phillies didn’t have to go to the bullpen.

But the rain did not come fast enough and we went off on the bullpen adventure once again.

Kyle Kendrick was the first lovely reliever we had to witness in the top of the seventh inning. Guess what happen? He blew the lead.

Contreras would come in later and blow the game even more.

I really can’t comprehend want I witnessed tonight, why after blowing the game in the seventh inning was Kyle Kendrick pitching in the beginning of the eighth.

The bullpen blows and there is really nothing positive about this team right now.

The Phillies have tomorrow off and then begin a three game series against the San Diego Padres on Friday. We need this day off just to relax for once.

Other Notes

Chase Utley participated in batting practice before today’s game at Citizens Bank Park. Here is what Utley had to say.

Joe Savery was optioned to triple a after the game, move to be made on Friday.

Charlie Manuel had a team meeting after the game.

Gameday Preview: Game 32 Phillies vs Mets, Still Sane

Happy Wednesday, everybody have a good evening.

After last nights blunder of a loss where the Phillies blew a 4-0 lead and could not push across any runs late in the game are right back at it tonight against the Mets, this is the series finale and first pitch is around 7:05 Pm EST. The Phillies are about to get swept by the Mets, just ponder that for a second.

I really don’t have the actually stats sitting in front of me but the Phillies bullpen has blown at least eight games this year, the pitcher I thought that would never blow game blew a game on monday and that was Jonathan Papelbon. I never thought the billion dollar closer would give up a home run to a guy that has never even had a hit in the major leagues. It’s like just pick your poison out there in the bullpen. The poison last night was Chad Qualls,  the first batter he faced the Mets tied it up after the worst rundown I have ever seen in my life.

Cliff Lee will toe the rubber for the Phillies tonight, the first time since April 18th.  In that game Cliff Lee pitched ten scoreless innings and the Phillies still lost the game, just nauseating. That has been the story of the season, nauseating.

To make room to activate Cliff Lee the Phillies sent Michael Schwimer down to triple A this afternoon. Schwimer had an 8.53 ERA in five appearances with the Phillies.

Guys you need to drink to watch the Phillies this season.

Dillon Gee will pitch for the Mets tonight, Gee is 2-2 on the season. He received a no decision his last time out against Arizona.

So if the Phillies get out to the early lead tonight I fully expect them to blow the game late, I know I sound negative but how could you be positive right now. My head is slowly exploding.

We just need Ryan Howard and Chase Utley back on this team.

Go Phillies!

Phillies lose 7-4, Close all Bridges

Baseball is just one frustrating sport, actually make that all of sports. Phillies blow the 4-0 lead they once had and lose 7-4 to the Mets. Drink drink drink drink the night away.

It was a crazy sports day around the Philadelphia area tonight, the Flyers were playing a few feet away from Citizens Bank Park where the Phillies were playing the New York Mets, and the 76ers were playing so this meant if you are a Philly sports fan you were either drunk or having heart attacks tonight.

The Phillies yet again got out to the early lead off of two run home run from Hunter Pence, Mr. Pence sure is starting to hit some of these balls deep out of ballparks in the last few days. With that deep fly to left center field Pence now has seven home runs on the season. I just wish he would stop swinging at the first pitch out of the strike zone every at bat, opposing pitchers are never going to throw him a strike on the first pitch if he keeps doing this.

Joe Blanton pitched tonight for the Phillies and he looked to continue his dominance from his last outing where he pitched a three hit shutout in Atlanta.

Joe Blanton pitched a hitless scoreless first three innings tonight against the Mets, he ran into some trouble in the top of the fourth inning but was able to pitch his way out of the jam and not allow more than one run.

Blanton could not get out of the seventh inning jam and left the game allowing a run in the inning, he was later charged with two more runs because the bullpen sucks.

Joe Blanton pitched 6.2 innings tonight and allowed four runs off of five hits, then the Phillies went to the arson squad bullpen and basically lost the game.

Chad Qualls has to be the worse reliever in baseball,

If you want to see the horrible sequence of the bullpen here you go.

The Phillies continue to have the worst bullpen ERA in the major leagues.

The name of the game this year for the Phillies is to push across early runs, the Phillies pushed a across another run in the bottom of the second inning off of a Pete Orr RBI single to centerfield, later in the inning Shane Victorino doubled to left to score two Phillies runs. Too many games this year I have seen the Phillies get out to the early lead only to blow it late.

It was the 216th sellout tonight at Citizens Bank Park, there was Pockets of empty seats everywhere. It was the smallest sellout since the streak began.

John Mayberry Jr. had the best night I think of all season, making great contact with the ball  all night long, something I have not seen in past games. Mayberry went 2 for 4 tonight.

Phillies next game is tomorrow night where Cliff Lee will pitch for the first time since April 18th, Lee pitched ten shutout innings in that game but the Phillies could not score a win and lost the game. Lee went on the disabled list the next day with a strained oblique muscle. Lee has pitched two pain-free bullpen session and is ready to go tomorrow night. Dillon Gee will pitch for the New York Mets.

Some Other Notes

Nationals General Manager Mike Rizzo was fined an undisclosed amount by MLB for his comments about Hamels beaning Bryce Harper. I guess if you talk you get fined.

Gameday Preview: Game 31 Phillies vs Mets, Please keep me Sane

Happy Tuesday.

After last nights horrible 5-2 loss the Phillies are right back at it this evening to play game two of this three game series against the New York Mets, first pitch around 7:05 Pm EST.

Last nights game was one of those game where you finish the whole bottle of rum off, when Roy Halladay is on the mound you just don’t expect him to walk away from a game with a no decision. You also don’t expect your 50 billion dollar closer to give up a three run home run to a guy that has never hit a home run in the major leagues, let alone a hit. Anything that could go bad for the Phillies last night went bad, the good thing about this sport is that there is always a game the next day.

That guy who hit the home run last night was Jordany Valdespin, and yes he is the starting lineup tonight.

The Phillies bats were hitting the balls hard in the first couple of innings but after that the bats went into hibernation and could never push across another run.

The Phillies are going to keep all of the bars in business at this rate.

Joe Blanton will take the hill for the Phillies tonight and in his last performance he probably pitched the best of any Phillies pitcher so far this season, the Phillies also really needed that outing from him. Last time out for Blanton he pitched a three hit shutout in Atlanta, the Phillies lost the night before in eleven innings so the Phillies really needed an outing like this because the bullpen was on their last leg. Phillies got the win that day and the bullpen was granted a much-needed rest.

Veteran righty Miguel Batista will pitch for the Mets, over his eighteen year major league career he has been on twelve different ball clubs. Career record of 101-113 and an ERA of  4.49 in his lengthy career.

A cool rainy 60 degrees around game time tonight at Citizens Bank Park, 50 percent chance of rain at game time.

This game is not on ESPN tonight so I will not get blacked out, ESPN just has horrible announces, and they like to have make out sessions with a certain player throughout the game. Especially if your name is Bryce Harper. If you had to take a shot of tequila every time ESPN mentioned Bryce Harper’s name you would probably die quickly of Alcohol poisoning.

And on that very positive note the picture down below represents my reaction tonight if the Phillies lose. I apologize to my house.

Go Phillies!

Go Flyers!

Go Sports!

Phillies please win this game so you can save the city from jumping off the bridge

Month In Review

The first month of the regular season for the Phillies could have been worse, it actuallycould have been really bad but as we flip the calendars to May the Phillies finish the month with a 11-12 record and are only 3.5 games out of first place.

It wasn’t the best month ever but we did get through it and somehow come out of it with only one game under .500. Some of the game were really hard to watch and really frustrated the living hell out of me but some games were actually pretty enjoyable if that’s possible. The Phillies really did a lot better than I thought through the first month of play, especially after the Phillies dropped two games to the pathetic San Diego Padres. That west coast trip really looked like it was going to go really horrible but the Phillies pulled some offense out of their ass or somewhere and won the games with their offense in the final two games of that road trip in Arizona against the Diamondbacks.

On that trip Cliff Lee was put on the disabled list, this upcoming friday there was a chance Cliff Lee might come off of the disabled list to pitch against the Nationals in Washington but that will not happen. Lee is getting better but he must throw two bullpen session before he can go out there and start a ball game, so far the first bullpen session has not been scheduled quite yet.

The Flyers hockey offense out scores the Phillies offense on a regular basis but at least we are pulling out some victories and we are not six games back already, the Phillies are in the hunt and I know its way too early to say this kind of garbage but hey I’m just giddy and thrilled we are keeping pace and getting these much-needed victories with Ryan Howard and Chase Utley out of the lineup.

Speaking of Chase Utley we had a glimpse of Utley when the Phillies were in Arizona, he was with the team that three game series against the Diamondbacks and he even shagged some fly balls and hit a little in batting practice before those games. Once the team left Arizona Chase remained there to continue to rehab and sip margaritas throughout the day.

Ryan Howard began his rehab in Clearwater today.

So lets hope as the months roll by the Phillies keep getting better and more importantly the Phillies keep getting healthier.

Here are some pictures from when the Phillies were out west, and thanks to everybody that has stopped by this site through the first month of the regular season. It really means a lot to me and I thank each and every one of you.
