Cliff Lee took the mound today for the Phillies. In the first inning Lee found himself in a bit of a jam with runners on second and third with one out, but Lee gets out of the trouble and does so by striking out the side. Through the first two innings today Cliff Lee already had five strikeouts on the day. Blue Jays would however get a run in the bottom of the fourth off of a leadoff double by Jose Bautista, a steal of third by Bautista, and a RBI base hit by Adam Lind. Cliff Lee would not allow another run in his six innings of work today, Lee allowed one run on five hits and struck out seven today in a pretty wonderful pitching performance.
Chad Qualls and Jose Contereas would pitch in relief today for the Phillies.
Phillies would get shutout today and only have four hits on the day.
Phillies offense did not have a hit through the first four innings today, Carlos Ruiz broke up the no hitter in the top of the fifth inning for the Phils. Later in the seventh inning the Phillies had runners on the corners with Juan Pierre up at bat but Pierre would fly out and the Phillies would continue to get shutout through seven innings.
Some other random Phillies notes today was over at the Minor League Spring Training game today the Phillies had Jim Thome playing at first base.
There was some good news today on some of the Phillies players with injuries, Ryan Howard does not have to wear his walking boot anymore. More good news on the injury front today was third basemen Placido Polanco participated in batting practice today, this is a big step in his recovery of his sprained finger he suffered in a spring game last week.
Next spring game for the Phillies is tomorrow against the New York Yankees.
