Roy Halladay really had a rough day today giving up two runs and allowing 5 runs on seven hits. Halladay was planned to go a little deeper then 2.2 innings today but he was just getting roughed up and the Phillies had to go to the bullpen a little earlier then planned. The rest of the Phillies pitching today was pretty great, Michael Stutes pitched two scoreless innings without allowing one hit and struck out two.
Phillies managed to put up four runs today on ten hits. Carlos Ruiz, John Mayberry Jr. and Placido Polanco all got RBI hits today for the Phillies but it was just enough to get the win.
Starters are starting to play a lot longer into games now that there has been roster cuts. Most starters are playing deep into the seventh inning instead of leaving the game early in the fourth inning after just two at bats.
Charlie Manuel head coach for the Philadelphia Phillies said that second baseman Chase Utley could be playing soon. ”I’d say it’s coming up real soon.” Chase Utley has been taking it easy this spring because of his past injuries, since Utley is such an important part to this team and organization they have really been resting him for the regular season when games actually count. There is really no point to play Utley right now so this is a smart decision to rest him right now and save him for the regular season.
Ryan Howard talked to the media today and we still have no timetable when he will be back. Howard is in a walking boot.
The Phillies fall to 5-7 this year in the grapefruit league and will be right back out there playing tomorrow against the Atlanta Braves at 1:05 Pm Eastern Time. The Braves have really been playing horrible this year in spring training and if I was a fan of them I would defiantly be a tad bit worried about this team.
