Vance Worley pitched four perfect innings today against the Pittsburgh Pirates and struck out eight as the Phillies defeat the Pirates 4-1, yes that was not a typo Worley really struck out EIGHT Pirates.
“It’s too early to strike out a bunch of guys,” Vance Worley said. “I’d rather get contact, because that helps you get deeper into games. Today, I happened to get a lot of swings and misses and some takes in there, too. If they’re going to give them to me, I’ll take them.”
Lets hope this is a sign that Vance Worley who is entering his sophomore season in the major leagues that he is going to have a great season. It is more important this year then last year for Worley because Roy Oswalt is not with the team in the fourth spot in the pitching rotation. Roy Oswalt is still a free agent right now, Oswalt said he would rather join a team midway through the season. Worley likely to take over the fourth spot in the rotation.
Vance Worley went 11-3 with a 3.01 ERA in his first season in the Majors last season with the Phillies.
I know it was only against the Pirates today who seem like they play spring training games all year around and never really play regular season ball but still this was a pretty impressive game from the Vanimal in a spring game or any game at the matter.
