The Phillies and Hunter Pence agree to a one year 10.4 million dollar contract, The Phillies and Pence avoid Arbitration with this deal.
The Phillies goal now is to sign Cole Hamels and Hunter Pence to long term deals this next year. The Phillies avoid arbitration with all player this year.
Wilson Valdez the versatile infielder for the Phillies has been traded to the Reds for Left hand reliever Jeremy Horst.
Horst has 12 appearances in the majors, Horst has a 2.93 ERA in 15.1 innings in the Majors. This will definetly help the Phillies bullpen and maybe Jeremy Horst can be the setup guy to Papelbon. Since Madson and Lidge are not on the team anymore the Phillies have lost a setup guy.
Wilson Valdez had been with the Phillies the past two seasons, Past two season Valdez batting average was .258 and .249. Valdez had 5 home runs combined in his seasons with the Phillies. Wilson Valdez most memorable moment as a Phillie had to be on May 25th last year against the Reds. Valdez came in and pitched and also picked up the win in that 19 inning game.
Today the Phillies agreed to a one-year fifteen million dollar contract.
This contract avoids arbitration with Hamel’s, and the Phillies will now try to sign a extension deal. This deal comes with a lot of incentives $100,000 grand for MVP, $250,000 For Cy Young, $100,000 for World Series MVP, $50,000 For LCS MVP.
Also today Wilson Valdes and the Phillies agreed to a $930,000 deal to avoid arbitration.
The only other Phillie up for arbitration is Right Fielder Hunter Pence. Pence filed at $11.8 million and the Phillies $9 million. The Phillies can still can sign a deal with Pence before the arbitration meeting.
Phillies have reportly signed Joel Pineiro to a Miner League contract.
The contract includes a invitation to spring training with the Phillies.
Pineiro will be a good addition to the bullpen if the Phillies need him.
The Phillies have agreed with pitcher Kyle Kendrick for a one-year 3.585 million dollar contract.
The Phillies avoid arbitration with Kendrick by signing this contract. Kyle Kendrick was likely going to get more money if this went to Arbitration.
Kendrick went 8-6 last year with a 3.22 ERA. Kendrick was worked more into the starting roll last year because of injuries to Oswalt and Blanton
Well if you could not I wouldn’t blame you cause he barely did anything with the Phillies. John Bowker got released by the Phillies and is going to pursue Baseball in Japan.
The Philles picked up John Bowker on Aug. 29th and he went 0-13 for the Phillies.
The Phillies were very close to having Madson be the closer this upcoming year, but the Phillies instead signed Papelbon to a 4 year contract. Madson has Scott Boras as an agent and Boras tries to get way more money then what his clients are worth.
Going into the upcoming season the Phillies are really lacking in the bullpen, Phillies do not have a setup man who has proven himself through a full season. It will definitely be different with Ryan Madson not on the team and Brad Lidge likely not being on the team. The two pitchers that shutdown the Rays in the 2008 World Series are likely not going to be in a Phillies uniform next year.
